Reasons I'm nervous about this cruise....

Okay, so what at one time was a full year away is now just days. I chose not to think about the upcoming cruise very actively until after Christmas, simply in an effort to maintain some sanity. But Christmas is over. And we leave for our cruise in like 10 days or so and I am threeking out!

I know, I know, some of you are probably thinking, "Yeah, shut it HeidiJoWhatDoYouKnow...you are going on a cruise for goodness sake." I understand your sentiments. I would be thinking the same thing if I were reading someone else's 'fears' or 'complaints' about an upcoming WARM vacation. But here's the deal folks, I am really nervous.

So here are some of the reasons I am feeling nervous. Feel free to point out anything I missed, just in case I have not thought of it and I should be threeking out about it too.

1. What if Grandma Joyce and Auntie Barb never want to speak to us again after leaving our hooligans with them?

2. What if Grandma Joyce and/or Auntie Barb try to potty train my two-year old while we are gone and we both end up emotionally scarred for life?

3. What if the kids act like angels and my suspicions of them being deviants solely for the purpose of tormenting me are verified?

4. Why, for heavens sake, does a person who prefers to keep both feet grounded solidly on soil agree to fly through the air only to board a ship?

5. How will I manage to spend seven days on a cruise ship that boasts something like 429 pools and visit some very exotic beaches without getting water on my face?

6. What if our luggage does not follow us and I am forced to wear jeans and tennis shoes for the entire time, when I will have a suit case of simply adorable outfits all neatly laid out?

7. What if none of the 7 or 8 pairs of shoes that I pack meet my needs and I need the one pair of shoes that I did not take along?

8. What if I get carried away with my ship-to-shore card and they do not allow us to disembark without assisting the staff in cleaning rooms?

9. What if I feel sea-sick and claustrophobic upon setting foot on board and my only option for sanity is to drink heavily...costing us a small fortune?

10. What if someone writes a fabulously funny post while I am gone- and I miss it because the cyber cafes cost a ridiculous amount of money to use and my husband would KILL me if I said I was skipping a land excursion to blog?

I feel for you on #10. We've had company here for the past 3 weeks and I have missed a lot of blog reading. I've had trouble sleeping at night knowing that I've missed so many great posts.

You'll have a great time. Take it from me, one who left her kids for 8 days to sneak off to Mexico this summer ... once you leave, you'll think of them CONSTANTLY for the first 15 minutes and then magically, they'll be removed from your mind for long periods of time.

You need this. It will be wonderful. Try not to worry!

I can relate to your anxiety totally! Two years ago we left our kids for 5 days to go to Mexico and I had complete anxiety until the second night we were there. After a few phone calls home my worries were gone and I was able to relax and enjoy some yummy drinks on the beach. :)
Our kids, and the grandmas, did very well while we were gone.
Grandma Joyce and Auntie Barb are wonderful and will handle your sweeties perfectly.

I will pray for your anxieties because I know that a mother can not turn off these feelings.
I know that once you get there and know there is no turning back, you will relax and make the very most of this great trip with your parents. Being a mommy is not easy, there is always a certain amount of worry in our minds.

Now get to packing those cute outfits and numerous pairs of shoes!

Take a valium and shut it!

Just kidding – you’ll have a great time!! If your kids are anything like mine, they WILL act like perfect angelic children as to say without using any words…my mom is crazy. The kids will be fine…you’ll be great….you’ll be soaking up the sun and getting a much needed vacation! Pack as many shoes and cute outfits as you want girl!

All I can do is laugh! I would have some of those worries too! Have fun though.

This anxiety is why we haven't done this yet! I can totally relate!

But, on the other hand - I'm so jealous!! Take lots of deep breaths and focus on the fresh, warm air, alone time with hubby, no kids to track, no diapers to change, no mini-van driving! You could lay by one of the pools and read a book or a magazine or whatever you want!

Sounds like fun!!! You'll have a great time once you get there.

Cute outfits?!? You're on a cruise without kids...who needs cute outfits when you probably won't even leave your hotel room! ;o)

And what if you have a wonderful time and your kids are well taken care of and you worried for nothing??!!

Easy for me to say huh!

How exciting!

Once you're there, I'm sure everything will be just GREAT!

Make sure you take plenty of Dramamine (motion sickness pills) with you and that should help! They do make non-drowsy ones!

More power to ya my dear...getting on a huge boat in the middle of the ocean is SOOOO not for me. I am happy that you are getting a vacation but most of all I am anxious to see how it goes for you. I am sure you will make the best of it and the kids will be FINE...

You'll be missed.

i totally understand your fears. we have a cruise to alaska planned in june and while it seems a long way off, i know i will be freaking out when it gets closer, for all the same reasons you are.

we are going with friends and what if they never want to speak to me again after being trapped with me and my kids for 7 days!

hope you have fun.

HJ!!!!!
I had to laugh b/c these reasons are exactly WHY I have never cruised...or left my children for longer than 3 days!!
But hats off to you! I wish I was as brave as you...and so does my hubby!

Have a blast!
Can't wait to see the pics!!
Think of it as blog research! You will have great posts we can all envy when you get home. Take a note pad and keep a journal so you can fill us in on your return!

I'm with you I would be nervous too.
But how exciting that it is getting so close. Enjoy your cruise.

I laughed so hard at the last one. I can totally see you doing that!!!! What if you board the ship and they have no record of your reservations?! Better call the cruise line just in case. That is always my biggest fear! What if you return home and your kids decide its much more fun than at home and refuse to leave with you?

You forgot #11: What if once you do this... once you take that step and leave the kids behind for 10 days... you WILL want to do it again? And again, and again, and again?

We love our kids and all, which makes it so hard to leave them with someone else, but it's nice to allow them to have a bit of space away from us! Don't cha think? They need it. So we should let them have it... every once-in-a-blue-moon.

I loved the cruise my man and I went on last year. It was great! Beware, he drinks add up quick and don't even bother with gambling (unless you're really good). It's frightful to watch people loose 100bucks over and over and over again. What is up with that?

I hope you enjoy it. I'm excited for you.

Lucky, lucky, lucky! I am green with envy. Truly. You will have such a wonderful time and you will be disappointed at how well your children do without you! ha ha.

Ooooooo I can't wait for a full vacation report. I will be living vicariously through you, for sure!
