Three years dating.
Eleven years married.
If the math I learned via my home-schooled elementary education can be trusted, that figures to fourteen years of knowing my spouse...
...and yet I am learning new things still.
Just recently this was our conversation:
Chad: "Did you just paint your toe nails?"
Me: "No, I did it before we left for our trip. Why?"
Chad: "I don't like painted toe nails."
Me: "WHAT? Are you serious? Since when?" (as I am wiggling what I consider to be some seriously cute toes)
Chad: "Forever. And that color (pointing to my toes) is really creeping me out."
Alrighty then. Now I know.

Melted my heart
We were blessed to be able to go out and visit our nephew Noah before his immunity took a hit from his chemotherapy treatments. I was worried that our family might be a bit overwhelming to the hospital staff, if not to our brother and sister-in-law. I was not too worried in that area, as they also have five in their family. But seeing the big guy and letting Nicholas see him and know that he is staying strong, was a priority to us.
So we headed out there for a day trip. A long day. An emotional day. But a good one.
While in Noah's room visiting, Nicholas and Noah got to playing with a stuffed animal on his bed. Noah was giggling at Nic's antics and Nic was thrilled to be able to make him laugh. A nurse came in to check Noah's vitals so I asked Nicholas to lay low and allow them to do their job without distracting Noah.
If you have read Lisa's early reports on Noah's opinion about the hospital, or if you know him personally, you will completely understand when I say that it is not in his nature to accommodate the nurses without compliant. As it would be for most any child...but Noah likes to make certain that they know his disgust. So as the nurse was trying to make small talk about Spider Man he (the nurse) noticed Nic laying down on the floor.
So he asked Noah: "Hey Noah, who's this boy hiding out under your bed? Is it your big brother or cousin or something?"
To which Noah replied, in the best Mater (from Cars) sounding voice, "Aww, he's my best friend."
That made every mile worth it.

Update
If you have been praying for Noah and his family, thank you. If you have not been able to check out their Caring Bridge website, I will just quickly let you know that many of the test results have come back with positive findings. The cancer appears to be isolated in the abdomen region. Not in the bone marrow, spinal fluids, or elsewhere. While it is still an uphill battle and one that will test Noah's strength and tax his body, we are continuing to pray that all of the statistics on beating this garbage will apply to Noah's body as well. In fact, we know that God can beat the odds better than anyone else.
Thank you for your support and encouragement. I have seen comments left on their site be several of my blog followers. And it amazes me and gives me great hope when I see that so many people are willing to offer a pray for a stranger.
Bless you!

More information
Blog readers:
I will link you to his caring bridge web site. I wish I could retell you or explain all that is going on, but being miles away and given the enormity of information that his parents receive daily, it is impossible for me to do so. Please feel free to check in from time to time but more importantly pray whenever he crosses your mind.
Thank you!

If that does not link you (you'll need a caring bridge sign in), just search under the name "noahcomes".

He needs your prayers
Please say a prayer for this little man. His name is Noah and he is four years old. Noah is our nephew, the youngest in his family. He is facing some very serious health issues that have arisen out of the blue. The healthy, rowdy boy pictured here is now in St. Paul at a children's hospital fighting the fight of his life. He needs us now. He needs our prayers. His mommy and daddy do too. I would be grateful if you could offer some up for him.

10 things I'm diggin' right now
1. Andrew saying: "Mom, check out this cool Lego I built! It's a bulldozer AND a chocolate mixer!"
2. When dropping my girls off for their craft session, having my oldest daughter jump out and start running in, only to stop in her tracks and yell back, "Come on Kate, I'll wait for you!"
3. Listening to the sounds of Elizabeth waking up in the morning. Hissing, blowing, grunting, stretching. Much like I imagine a hot air balloon preparing for flight, would sound.
4. Looking out my window and seeing my son running and diving to catch a football thrown by his best friend. And while washing his clothes spraying the grass stains and smiling knowing how much fun he had making them.
5. Seeing Katharine trundle up the steps at 7:00 AM totally dead asleep on her feet, but willingly being led by her older sister.
6. Putting together those ever necessary red/white/blue outfits for the kids. I will have the cutest firecrackers at the parade. According to me of course.
7. The random gifts and cards still arriving for Ms. Elizabeth. Knowing that people are still thinking and praying for our blessing.
8. Days with low humidity. L O V E them!
9. Laying on a blanket in the front yard under our crab apple tree with all five kids. Yes, we look like a mama cat with her litter of kittens, but we laugh and giggle at ourselves too.
10. My late night walks. Alone. By myself. With only my thoughts. I have discovered that I am a very interesting person with many interesting thoughts. :0)
