As totally annoying as the truth may be at times, there really is nothing you can do to argue with it.
Example:
Katharine: "Mom, where is my little black kitty?" (a toy)
Me: "I don't know, did you check downstairs?"
Katharine: "No, will you do it?"
Me: "No Kate, I'm making lunch right now, you can do it. Take Andrew with you and go find it."
Calling her ever willing brother, the two head down to the basement to find the little black kitty. Returning just moments later, I ask, "Did you find it?"
Kate replied, "No."
"Did you look around? In your room, in the toy tote?" I ask.
"Nope. We just stood in the middle of the room. Now will you go find it?"
What is there to say to that?

I get the same exact thing--except there is never a willing sibling to even go down to the basement to check.
Not sure what to say to that - but I know what I'd say the next time they ask for a snack! ;-D
I think her and Raena are related.
How about, "Well honey if that is all the harder you are willing to look for it I guess you don't want to find it very badly" or "Is that all the harder you would want me to search for you if you were lost?" And what is it with kids and basements? Mine needs to take a sibling with her also and we have a walk-out basement so it isn't even dark. Weird.
Smiles!
I think Nic has been giving her advice!
Next time that YOU go downstairs to look for something of Kate's, just say --- "I stood there in the middle of the room, and couldn't find it!"
But the lesson would be lost, I'm sure.
I love Momma Roar's response!
That Kate is a funny one. I love that she is perfectly honest in saying she just stood in the middle of the room. HAHAHA!
HA!!! Sooooo glad it's not just MY kids. ;-)
just so we're clear...she didn't say it in a sassy manner at all. just very matter of factly.
and none of you think that i actually went and found the kitty do you? :0)
So....did you go find it??!!
At least they were honest! :)
Sounds just like Dave, Alicia and Jenna. No one can ever find anything even when it's right under their noses.
That is halarious.
Hope you or she found her kitty.
I feel the same way as Ginger...it seems I'm the only one that can find things around here too.
One time I asked Megan if she could do....something or another and she said, "No I'm busy right now."
See what you get when you teach them to be honest? =)
:-D
i remember my kids going to look for something but not moving things around in order to find it. they would claim that "it" isn't there. i would end up going to look and only have to move something aside, and viola... there it would be.
actually, now that i think about it, sometimes dh can be that way, too ;)
